GETTING THE MOST OUT OF THE DEMONSTRATION SOFTWARE
Your best path through the FrameMaker demonstration software is as follows:
1. Demo Document
2. Learning FrameMaker
3. Samples
4. Templates
5. Clip Art
Demonstration Document
The Demonstration Document is an excellent introduction to FrameMaker. It provides an overview of FrameMaker capabilities. Since this document also demonstrates features new in FrameMaker 3.0, it might be of interest to those already familiar with FrameMaker.
Learning FrameMaker
After you finish with the Demonstration Document, we suggest you read Learning FrameMaker. This hands-on tutorial introduces important concepts such as paragraph and character formats. You╒ll also learn how to edit a document, add graphics, and modify templates. The tutorial uses the files in your Training folder. When you complete this tutorial, you╒ll be ready to experiment with the sample files included with the demonstration software.
Samples
The Samples folder contains files demonstrating conditional text, tables, and structured documents.
To learn more about FrameMaker╒s structured document capabilities, look at the documents in the Sample Book folder. They illustrate how you can use FrameMaker to construct a book from multiple files. Try using some of the time-saving features shown in the Demonstration Document such as user variables, automatic table of contents and index generation, and cross-referencing.
To experiment with FrameMaker╒s powerful table editor, look at the documents in the TableSamples folder. Open a sample table; then add, delete, or revise elements in that table.
To see how you can use conditional text to produce different variations of a document, look at the document in the Conditional Text folder. Open the document and practice applying, showing, and hiding variations.
Templates
Templates provide an excellent opportunity to use FrameMaker on your own. The demonstration software includes four templates from FrameMaker╒s collection of thirty. Open a template and experiment with different paragraph and character formats.
Clip Art
The demonstration software includes three clip art files from FrameMaker╒s collection of fifteen. You can use FrameMaker clip art in your documents or you can customize them using FrameMaker╒s drawing tools. Open a FrameMaker template, and copy and paste an illustration from one of the clip art files. Then use FrameMaker╒s drawing tools to change the illustration.
On-Line Help files
You can get Help while you work with FrameMaker by choosing Help from the Apple menu. The Help documents were created using FrameMaker╒s hypertext commands.
